Introduction

In 1928, Greece built an unnamed monument to honor the soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the fight for national sovereignty. The monument depicts a warrior wearing armor, holding a shield, and lying on the battlefield. The monument is guarded by the Evzones infantry unit, consisting of about 200 elite soldiers who undergo rigorous selection and assessment. The monument is now the site of Greece's military parade and various important national events. Behind the monument is the Parliament House, formerly the palace, which has undergone several renovations and is now Greece's highest parliamentary building. Every day at the exact hour, there is a unique ceremony of soldiers changing guard, with their special uniforms and movements attracting many visitors. The soldiers' special uniforms are very popular in Greece, and many people come here to see them. The small square in front of the monument is full of pigeons who are not afraid of visitors and often land on their heads or shoulders. Visitors can buy some nuts to feed and interact with them.
