Introduction

The Zadar city gate, located in Croatia, is a historic building constructed by the Venetians in 1543 and is also one of the landmarks of Zadar. At the center of the gate is a statue of flying Saint Mark lion, representing the identity and status of the royal family during the Venetian period. Below the lion is a statue of a guardian angel riding a horse, guarding the history of Zadar and witnessing the local traditions and culture.
