Introduction

The oldest religious building in Avignon, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, is located next to the Papal Palace. It was constructed in the mid-12th century and has a long history. The cathedral has a bell tower with 35 bells, which are said to have the second loudest sound among all bell towers in France. Each bell has its own name, and they vary in size, so the sound they produce is also different. Currently, all the bells in the bell tower were cast after the French Revolution, as all the previous bells were melted down to make cannons for warfare. The adjacent Rocher des Doms Rock Park is a historically significant place and a popular spot for leisure and vacation.
