Église Saint-Jean-de-Montmartre, A Modernist Gothic Gem with Decadent Flair

19 Rue des Abbesses, 75018 Paris, France
3.7

Introduction

If you have enough energy, you can choose to climb the stairs instead of taking the elevator when you arrive at Abbesses metro station because the stairs walls are painted with cute pictures, which is very interesting. When you come out of the metro station, be sure to turn around and look at this special metro exit, designed by Hector Guimard, with a highly decorative cast iron exterior. Opposite the exit is the unique church built by Anatole de Baudot in 1904, which is different from other classical-style churches. It is Paris's first church built with reinforced concrete and decorated with polished original gemstones, full of the decadent atmosphere of the turn of the century while retaining its solemnity.
