Introduction

Île Saint-Louis is the smaller of the two islands on the Seine River in Paris, located upstream of Île de la Cité. In the early 17th century, the island was an uninhabited wasteland. However, by 1664, it was filled with beautiful houses facing the docks and the Seine, all featuring excellent ventilation. Today, Île Saint-Louis is home to many excellent art galleries and fashionable clothing stores. If you take a stroll in the small garden behind Notre-Dame Cathedral, you are likely to see locals taking wedding photos here. Afterwards, you can follow the music of street performers across a small bridge to reach the sister island of Île de la Cité – Île Saint-Louis. Once here, you will suddenly enter a peaceful world. You can wander through the maze-like narrow streets, searching for the legendary best ice cream.
