Introduction

The New Arc de Triomphe is located in the La Defense financial district, a modern building on the historical axis. This axis dates back to the 17th century when Louis XIV ordered the construction of a line connecting the Louvre Palace to the Palace of Saint-Germain-en-Laye for hunting purposes. In the 18th century, the Place de la Concorde and the Champs-Élysées were added to this axis. Napoleon later added the Arc de Triomphe and the Carrousel Gate. The construction of the New Arc de Triomphe marks the endpoint of this axis and serves as a historical landmark. The designer, Spøile Kelsen, even rotated the gate by 6°33' to align it with the Place de la Concorde and the square in front of the Louvre Palace. You can visit this modern building at the La Defense Museum.
