Introduction

You may already know that the Statue of Liberty in New York is a gift from France, but you may not know that during the same period, Paris also had two smaller statues of Liberty, one of which is located on the Seine River. The Statue of Liberty in Paris is situated on a narrow artificial island on the southwestern end of Île aux Cygnes (Island of the Swans) on the Seine River. This statue was a gift from the American people to the French people, facing westward, contrasting with the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.
