Introduction

Art Bridge is a pedestrian bridge that spans the Seine River, connecting the French Academy and the central square of the Louvre Palace (known as "Palais des Arts" during the First Empire). In 1802-1804, an arched metal pedestrian bridge designed by engineer Louis-Alexandre de Cessart and Jacques Vincent-Demaison was built, which was the first metal bridge in Paris and was inspired by English design, showcasing the technological advancement of the time. The banks are designed as gardens with various flowers, plants, and benches. In 1984, the bridge was rebuilt as a seven-arch bridge. It is believed that this metal bridge was named "Art Bridge" to facilitate artists' participation in the Paris exhibitions. To this day, the bridge has become one of the most romantic places in Paris, where couples lock their love "padlocks" on it and throw the keys into the Seine River, symbolizing eternal love.
