Introduction

On March 24, 1999, NATO conducted a 78-day bombing campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, resulting in at least 3,500 deaths, 12,500 injuries, and at least $30 billion in property damage. Multiple government agencies, factories, hospitals, and television stations were severely damaged or destroyed, including the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia. To commemorate this tragic humanitarian disaster, Serbia decided to preserve damaged buildings, including the Yugoslav Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Serbian National TV. These buildings are preserved on the same street, not far from the current Serbian government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is remarkable that the damaged parts of these buildings have been preserved, while the undamaged parts continue to be used as offices.
