Introduction

The Latvian National Opera, also known as Latvijas Nacionālā Opera, is a renowned cultural center located in the heart of Riga, the capital city of Latvia. Since its completion in 1918, it has been one of the representatives of classical music and one of the most outstanding achievements in the history of Latvian architecture and culture. The opera house is designed exquisitely with a classical and elegant style, especially its innovative stage design which has brought a musical feast to world-class conductors and singers who come from afar to Riga. The Latvian National Opera's predecessor was a neoclassical building built in 1863, designed by Ludwig Bohnstedt, a Saint Petersburg architect and formerly known as the German City Theater. Over the past century, the opera house has undergone several renovations, including from 1882 to 1887, 1957 to 1958, 1991 to 1995, and 2001, the latter of which added a modern music hall capable of accommodating 300 people. From December to June, the Latvian National Opera hosts over 200 performances of operas and ballets, attracting many tourists and music enthusiasts to come and watch.
