Introduction

"The Maiden Tower" is a name given by the Turks and has been used for many buildings, including the most famous ones in Baku and Istanbul. However, these names have different origins. The Baku Maiden Tower was built in the 12th century and was originally located on the shore of the Caspian Sea in the southeast corner of the old city. There are different opinions about its original purpose. After many renovations and changes in the coastline, the tower is now 29 meters high and less than 100 meters from the coast. Its plan is in the shape of a keyhole, with the north side being circular and the south side sharp. It is said that it brings warm winters and cool summers. The tower includes ancient wells and a Baku old photo exhibition. In 2000, the tower was listed as a World Heritage Site.
