Georgia culinary guide

Located in the Caucasus region, Georgia is surrounded by mountains and boasts unbeatable natural scenery. It also offers tantalizing cuisine and delicious wines that are sure to captivate you. In this rarely visited land, you will taste flavors that you will never forget.

Vino Underground

This stone-built wine bar is owned jointly by eight local wine merchants and serves some of Georgia's latest naturally crafted wines. Here you can encounter Georgia's top winemakers, with the best pairing being wild asparagus with sumac yogurt and an evening red honey Budeshari red wine.

Poliphonia

This cave-like small tavern changes its menu according to the seasons, all dishes are authentic Georgian traditional cuisine, so you may eat beetroot carrot salad here, or wild garlic with poached eggs.

Nikoladzeebi's wine cellar

The owner of this winery, Ramaz Nikoladze, is the leader of the slow food movement in Georgia. He strictly adheres to the essence of slowness in his own winemaking process. The white wine made from Tsitska grapes using biodynamic fermentation is 100% natural and does not use any chemicals in the grape cultivation process. In addition, you can also taste the unique flavor of the Tsolikouri white wine directly from the Qvevri clay jars of this winery.

Zgapari Restaurant

This is a family-owned small restaurant located on the banks of the Dzirula river, known for its dishes made with mushrooms picked from nearby suburbs. Don't miss the restaurant's roasted chicken with blackberry sauce, its unique flavor will surely leave a lasting impression.

Archil Guniava's Wine Cellar

You can choose to enjoy lunch at Archil Guniava's Wine Cellar, where the grilled chicken with cucumber and tomato salad is delicious. The naturally sweet and fragrant Tsolikouri white wine, the light-bodied Tsitska and Krakhuna white wines, as well as the bold-tasting Otskanuri Sapere are all worth trying.

Iago's Winery

The owner of this winery is a couple. The husband's name is Iago Bitarshvili and his wife, Marina Kurtanidze, is the first female winemaker in modern Georgian history. She only produces fresh Chinuri white wine, which is very suitable for serving with khinkali dumplings and quail.

Pheasant's Tears Winery

The Shavkapito and Kisi vineyards owned by John Wurdeman and Gala Patalishvili, overlook the mountains of Sighnaghi. The smoked Sulguni cheese cornbread and beetroot with wild berries served at this restaurant are both incredibly delicious.

Gabriadze

Café next to the old clock tower serves great decaf coffee and delicious donuts. Good location but average service.

Abajuri Cafe

The location is quite concealed with only one iron gate entrance along the street. Upon entering, one must go to the second floor from the courtyard. The cheese puff pastry roll was deliciously crispy and the red wine stewed pear was just right. The environment was great!
Okro's Winery, this is the third restaurant we tasted, the taste is much better, and the price is often right. It is a small winery where you can taste wine, visit the wine cellar, and the top floor restaurant has a good view.
