Introducción
Shirakawa Village is located at the foot of Mount Hakusan in Gifu Prefecture, surrounded by mountains, vast paddy fields, and intertwined rivers, making it a peaceful mountain village. In December 1995, at the 19th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Berlin, Germany, it was decided to include Japan's "Shirakawa Village and Gokayama's Gassho-style Houses" in the World Heritage List. This is the sixth place in Japan to be selected as a World Heritage Site and is an international recognition of Japan's long-term commitment to protecting its natural and cultural heritage. This quiet mountain village attracts a large number of tourists every year. The houses in Shirakawa Village are very special in their construction, created to cope with the snowy climate in one of Japan's few regions with abundant winter snow. This type of architectural structure not only reduces the impact of wind, but also regulates the amount of sunlight and maintains warmth in winter and coolness in summer. These types of buildings are still very suitable for large family residences, and to this day, hundreds of villagers reside in Shirakawa Village.
