The architectural exterior resembles the Chinese character.

Manila City Hall is one of the most iconic landmarks in Manila, consisting of a hexagonal tower and a series of low-rise buildings. Initially criticized for its coffin-like shape and the peculiar placement of the tower, these same characteristics now make the building highly praised. The City Hall is located outside the ancient and historically significant Intramuros walls in Manila.
