Legend has it that Qizhen Mount Fo Shan is where a high monk found the dragon vein for the current ninth emperor. In order to express reverence and faith in Buddhism, he decided to build a giant Buddha statue on the mountain. After a difficult and remarkable construction process, this great Buddha finally stood towering in the shape of the mountain. The Buddha statue is made using high-tech laser technology, outlined by 4 tons of gold and decorated with gold wire imported from Italy, making the lines sparkle and eye-catching. Moreover, the Buddha statue also contains the remains of Shakyamuni. The Buddha statue, in meditation, has a compassionate expression and is clearly visible even from miles away. Koh Larn, also known as Coral Island or Golden Sand Island, is a small island located 7.5 kilometers away from Pattaya Beach. The seawater is crystal clear, allowing visibility of marine life several meters below the surface. The surrounding waters have beautiful coral reefs, and visitors can enjoy glass-bottom boat tours or dive to get a close-up view.
The island has a peak that offers a panoramic view of the sea and the beach. On the mountaintop, there is a temple with a statue of Guanyin, the Goddess of Mercy. Visitors can also enjoy activities such as snorkeling and jet skiing on the beach. However, there are many stray dogs on the island, so visitors should be cautious.
Accommodation and dining facilities on the island are not very well-equipped. Therefore, tourists can take a ferry or speedboat from Pattaya to Koh Larn and return to Pattaya for accommodation in the evening. Koh Pai Island, located nearby, is also a great tourist destination.
