Introduction

The Ladder Church, built in 1976, is a cone-shaped structure that differs greatly from the classical style of traditional European churches. There are colorful stained glass windows on all four sides of the church, which extend from the ground to a height of 75 meters. Inside the church, uniquely shaped stained glass makes full use of sunlight to create a fascinating play of light and shadow, offering visitors an endless visual feast. The church has 20,000 seats, and the basement houses a small but exquisite religious art museum called the Museum of Sacred Art, which displays precious artifacts such as the throne of Pedro II and the golden rose bestowed upon Princess Isabella by Pope Leo XIII after the abolition of Brazilian slavery.
