Introduction

Located in the city center of Rio de Janeiro, Sugarloaf Mountain is one of the city's most famous landmarks, known as one of its symbols, alongside the Christ the Redeemer statue. Sugarloaf Mountain is also known as Pão de Açúcar, which is said to originate from early residents naming it after the mountain's similar appearance to a loaf of bread. Rising 396 meters above sea level on a peninsula, the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain offers panoramic views of the city, including views of Corcovado, Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, and Copacabana Beach. Santos Dumont Airport, the airport closest to Sugarloaf Mountain, is only 5 kilometers away, and flights can almost fly over the top of the mountain at cruising altitude.

Transportation
Take Bus No. 107 from the city center (note that the frequency of this bus is low, and if you plan to catch the sunset and return during rush hour, the driver may skip stops due to overcrowding. If it's getting too late, it's recommended to take a taxi back). Take Bus No. 511 from the beach area to Urca Station, and take Bus No. 512 back. There are two cable cars from the foot of the mountain to the summit, one from Praça Vermelha to Urca Mountain (Morro da Urca), and the other from Urca Mountain across the bay to Pão de Açúcar Mountain. The cable cars run every 20 minutes.
