Introduction
Colorado Lake, also known as Red Lake, is located at the entrance of Eduardo Abaroa Natural Reserve. It is farther from White Lake and Green Lake. This is a small shallow salt lake on the southwest Altiplano plateau in Bolivia, with an area of approximately 60 square kilometers. The lake bottom is sedimented with a large amount of borax, and the algae in the lake water make the lake water appear pink. This kind of scenery presents a unique effect of red and white interlaced. Red Lake is one of the most popular highland salt lakes in the natural reserve. Its red color is due to the growth of red algae. The hot springs on the lake bottom bring rich nutrients to the red algae, and this harmonious coexistence brings stunning natural scenery. There are three species of flamingos living here: Andean flamingos, Chilean flamingos, and James flamingos. There are only 50,000 James flamingos in the world, of which 30,000 live here every summer, and more than 50 other bird species also make their homes here.
