Introduction

Gibson Steps is a trail located above a cliff, connected by 86 steps to the top of the cliff and the beach below. Local indigenous people reportedly carved out this steep staircase first, and early settler Hugh Gibson later repaired and improved it, resulting in the present form we see today. The stairs are in a Z shape and only about one meter wide, just enough for one person to pass through. At the top, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the blue sea and two giant pillars called Gog and Magog, as well as the almost 90-degree vertical cliff behind you, which makes you marvel at the insignificance of humankind. The waves here are strong and not suitable for swimming, but it is a great spot for fishing.
