Introduction

The Royal Australian Mint is an institution managed by the Commonwealth Government and is the exclusive supplier of coins in circulation in Australia. Established in Australia in 1909, the Mint was eventually located in Canberra, adjacent to the National Library, Mount Ainslie, the Old Parliament House and Capitol Hill. The Commonwealth Government approved the construction of the Mint in 1962 and it was completed in 1963. On February 22, 1965, Prince Philip visited to attend the opening ceremony. The first task of the Mint was to produce new circulating coins on February 14, 1966. Since then, the Mint has produced more than 1.4 billion coins and can still produce 2 million coins per day. The Royal Australian Mint is the world's first coin mint to achieve ISO9002 certification and is still committed to improving quality systems, innovative technology and research and development. The Mint can not only produce Australian coins, but also undertake other countries' coins, and provide services for private clients, national and international medals, badges and marks, among others.
