St. Mary's Cathedral is the spiritual home of the Catholic community in Sydney, located at the intersection of College Street and Prince Albert Road near Hyde Park. This Gothic-style building, made of local sandstone, is the mother church of Australian Catholicism and one of the oldest and largest religious buildings in Australia. The church was built in 1821 and underwent a major fire and several expansions, with the reconstruction taking over 60 years before being completed in 1928. The cathedral is 107 meters long, with a nave that is 24.3 meters wide and a ceiling 22.5 meters high. The central tower stands 46.3 meters high, while the height of the front and spire towers is 74.6 meters. It is not only a valuable heritage from the past, but also an important part of the spiritual and cultural life of the entire city and country today.
Visitors can freely tour the inside of the cathedral for free, and when entering, will be infected by the solemn atmosphere. The Marlowe Priest's floor pattern in the underground crypt is themed after Genesis and is made of colored mosaic stones, famous for its exquisite craftsmanship. In addition to the grand architecture of the cathedral itself, its significance and historical background are also noteworthy.
