Introduction

The Lan Su Chinese Garden is located in Portland's Chinatown and covers an area of 3700 square meters. It officially opened in September 2000 and is a typical example of a Suzhou-style garden, composed of five scenic areas. It is said to be the largest Suzhou-style garden overseas. The layout of the garden is free, flexible, and winding, with abundant spatial levels. The central lake area is mainly composed of water scenery, and the ripples of the water are clear and poetic, creating a picturesque atmosphere. The garden pays attention to the creation of landscape mood and the construction of artistic atmosphere, blending scenery and emotions. The specific design details, such as the flowing fragrance of the clear springs, the sound of the cold fountain, the locked moon pavilion, the willow wind sail, the deep clouds in the ravines, and the blooming flowers in the spring rain, all showcase the unique features of Chinese garden art. In the pursuit of excellence, Lan Su Chinese Garden has continuously received praise and recognition. The Oregon State Government awarded the garden the "Human Habitat Environment Award," and the Portland City Government awarded the Suzhou Garden Design Institute the "Special Contribution Award." Compared to other Chinese-style gardens visited overseas, the design and construction of Lan Su Chinese Garden are more meticulous and refined. This garden is a beautiful witness of friendly exchanges between Portland and Suzhou and an important representative of Chinese garden art.
