Founded by 26 local residents on February 27, 1809, many of whom were former members of the Old South Meeting House, the church was dedicated on May 1 and completed by the end of the year. On January 10, 1810, Park Street Church held its first worship service. It is an important building in American Christian history, carrying the memories of the democratization movement in American Christianity, and symbolizing the fight against slavery and the promotion of democracy and freedom. It has witnessed many important moments in American history, such as the Mayflower Mutiny and President Lincoln's inauguration.
