Introduction
The Bunker Hill Monument is one of the most significant memorials in American history. It stands tall in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, commemorating the fierce battle between the British army and North American colonial militia on June 17, 1775. This granite obelisk, standing at 221 feet (67 meters) tall, was constructed between 1827 and 1843, using materials from Quincy transported to the site via a specially-built granite railway and barges. The Bunker Hill Monument is the last stop on the Freedom Trail and an essential part of Boston National Historical Park. Address Monument Sq, Charlestown, MA 02129
