Introduction

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts was founded in 1876, on the occasion of the centennial of American independence. The museum has a rich and diverse collection, including archaeological artifacts from ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, Greek and Roman civilizations, various European painting schools, and ancient artifacts from East Asia and India. The collection of Asian art is particularly rich, featuring bronze, ceramics, paintings, calligraphy, textiles, and sculptures from China, Japan, Korea, and other countries, as well as treasures from Islamic, Hindu, and Buddhist art. Famous collections include Tang Yin's "Emperors of the Past Dynasties" and Emperor Huizong of Song's "Sieve Training Picture". Classical art is also a key focus of the museum's collection, including bronze, ceramics, sculptures, coins, gems, silverware, and glass from ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts also has the world's largest collection of Monet paintings, as well as a 19th-century American art collection that is unique.
