Introduction

Yonge Street or Yonge is an important avenue in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, constructed in 1793. Prior to 1998, Yonge Street was Ontario Highway 11, spanning 1,896 kilometers, making it the longest street in the world according to the Guinness World Records. However, in 1998, the Ontario government announced the cancellation of its provincial highway status between Toronto and Barrie, and reclassified it as a regional and municipal road.
