Introduction

The Romans were the first to build walls around the town center. Along the walls are many attractions, including the Eastgate Clock, which is believed to have been built to celebrate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee. The south corner of the walls is the Wishing Steps, where it is said that wishes can come true if you can run back and forth while holding your breath on the uneven steps. At the south gate is a pub called the Bear & Billet, which is one of Chester's oldest half-timbered buildings.
