Introduction

The Old Course is a part of St Andrews Golf with a 600-year history and is known as the birthplace of golf. It is one of the six most famous public golf courses and the venue for the Golf World Championship. To play golf at the Old Course, one must book one year in advance between August 27th and September 15th each year. Successful bookings are decided by lottery. The Old Course is composed of natural sand traps, dense weed areas, and natural turf, and is enjoyed in harmony with nature. The 17th hole is considered the world's most difficult golf hole. Initially, the course had 22 fairways, but it evolved into its current 18 fairway format, which has become the template for golf courses around the world.
