Introduction

Newcastle Castle is one of the best-preserved Romanesque stone castles in the UK, located in the heart of the city near the train station. Originally a timber structure, the castle was later transformed into a stone castle under the rule of Henry II. Its name "Newcastle" also derives from this, becoming one of the city's iconic landmarks.
