Introduction
Emmanuel College is one of the 31 colleges of the University of Cambridge, and also one of the wealthiest. In 2011, the college received a donation of about 150 million pounds and teaches all subjects offered by the University of Cambridge, with an equal number of arts and science students. Emmanuel College has consistently ranked in the top five in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, a ranking which began in 1988.
The college has a large fishpond, a tradition dating back to the monastery period, which is home to a group of ducks. In addition, there is a swimming pool in the fellows' garden, which was originally a bathhouse in the monastery period. Today, it remains one of the oldest bathhouses in Europe. Furthermore, a plane tree in the college courtyard has an age that far exceeds the average for its species.
