Introduction

St. John's College is one of the oldest and largest colleges of the University of Cambridge. It was founded in 1511 by Lady Margaret Beaufort, the mother of King Henry VII of England. The college has a large campus with five courtyards and magnificent buildings. One of the most famous attractions is the Bridge of Sighs, which spans over the River Cam and was built in 1831, connecting St. John's College's Old Court and New Court. Although the bridge is often described as a place where students sigh after failing their exams, its name is actually derived from the Bridge of Sighs in Venice, Italy. It is also one of the Queen's favorite sights in Cambridge.
