Introduction

The Saviour Monastery is located on a peninsula in Lake Saviour, originally a building on Saviour Island. During the Soviet era, water engineering lowered the water level of Lake Saviour and turned the island into a peninsula. The history of the monastery dates back to the 9th century, and the surviving buildings include the short Apostle Church and the tall Nativity of the Virgin Church, which preserves more ancient relics. The architectural form of both churches is simple and square, leaving a deep impression.
