Introduction

Eger Castle is an ancient castle located on a mountain, built in the 13th century after the invasion of the Mongols. It is now one of the most popular attractions in the city. The castle covers a large area and is connected underground by a five-level tunnel network that reaches a depth of 30 meters. It was the base for the famous Siege of Eger. Hungarian writer Géza Gárdonyi used this historic event to create a moving and tragic story in his 1901 novel "Eclipse of the Crescent Moon," which has been translated into multiple languages.
