Introduction

Eger Castle is an ancient fortress located on a hill, built in the 13th century after the Mongol invasion, and is now one of the most popular attractions in the city. The castle covers a vast area and is connected underground by a network of tunnels that stretches five levels deep, reaching 30 meters, serving as the base for the famous Battle of Eger. Hungarian writer Géza Gárdonyi wrote a novel titled "The Eclipse of the Crescent Moon" in 1901, based on this historical event, narrating this poignant and tragic story, which has been translated into multiple languages.
