Introduction

The Palamidi Castle, located in the old town area of Nafplio, is a military fortress masterpiece from the Venetian period, built on a giant rock that rises to 216 meters. You can drive to the castle or choose a more interesting option by walking up the 999 steps from the eastern entrance (bus station). Although the climb is relatively difficult, once you reach the top, you can enjoy the beautiful views of the old town of Nafplio, the high city of Nafplio, the harbor, the Argos plain, and the Peloponnese peninsula coastline. The castle is divided into eight sections (Bastions), with the most intact and important being the St. Andrew section to the west, which includes St. Andrew's Church (Agios Andreas Bastion and St. Andrew's Chapel). The Miltiades section in the northeast corner is the largest part of the castle and used to be a prison.
