Introduction
The Hadrian's Library ruins in the north of the Acropolis in Athens were built in 132 AD by Roman Emperor Hadrian. This Roman-style building was equipped with study rooms, reading rooms, and classrooms. However, the library was destroyed by the Heruli invasion in 267 AD. It was restored by Maximian in the fifth century. During the Byzantine Empire, three churches were built inside the library.
