Santa María del Mar, A Sanctuary of Serene Gothic Grandeur
Plaça de Santa Maria, 1, 08003 Barcelona

Introduction
Located in the eastern part of the Gothic Quarter, another medieval Gothic cathedral, second only to the Barcelona Cathedral, is the Cathedral of Santa Maria. The cathedral was built between 1329 and 1384 and maintains a pure Catalan Gothic style, with perfect proportions and harmonious structures, making it one of the architectural gems of Barcelona. The earliest record of the seaside Santa Maria church dates back to 998 AD, and the reconstruction project began on March 25, 1329, with chief designers Berenguer de Montagut and Ramón Despuig, as well as the participation of relevant guild groups. In 1428, a ground collapse destroyed the rose window on the west side, and the new flame-shaped window was completed in 1459. Address Plaça de Santa Maria, 1, 08003 Barcelona
