Introduction

Cesme Castle is located in the town of Cesme in the Izmir region of Turkey. Due to frequent commercial trade, the port of Cesme was often attacked by pirates. During the reign of Sultan Bayezid II, the then-governor of Aydin Province, Mir Haydar, ordered the construction of the castle to safeguard the port's security. In 1770, during the Battle of Cesme, a conflict between the Ottoman Empire and Russia, the castle was destroyed, becoming a witness to this famous battle.
