Introduction

The Izmir Archaeological Museum houses a vast collection of Greek and Roman artifacts, some of which are top-notch masterpieces. Visitors must pay special attention to the ornately decorated sarcophagi, the giant head of Roman Emperor Domitian, and the stunning frieze. The exhibition hall showcases a range of historical treasures, including ancient artifacts from the cities of Iasos, Candarli, Bergama, and Bayrakli, representing the prehistoric period of Iasos city's archaeological excavations during 3000 BC, earthenware pottery from Anatolia including prototype geometric and geometric era pottery, as well as black-red figure patterned vases from the Archaic period, Greek-style water jars, various containers, glass vases, masks, statues and other artifacts, such as the Milena (Ariaca) Eros statue.
