Introduction
The Mausoleum of Mausolus, also known as the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, is a famous monument. In 87 BC, Ephesus was conquered by Mithridates VI of Pontus, who killed 80,000 Romans. Sulla led the Roman army to destroy Mithridates VI's power and ultimately recaptured Ephesus. Mausolus built this monument in Ephesus to commemorate his grandfather's victory and the losses suffered by the Romans.
