Introduction
The oldest church in Zurich is the Grossmünster, or the Great Minster, which was the only parish church in the city before the Reformation and the other churches belonged to monasteries. The current building was completed in 1706 and became the first church of the Dominant Protestant period. Restoration work was completed from 1970 to 1975. The diameter of the clock face on the spire is 8.7 meters, and the hour hand is 3 meters long and the minute hand is 4 meters long, making it one of the largest church clock faces in Europe.
