Introduction

Batalha Monastery is located in the city of Batalha in the Belem province of Portugal, and was built to commemorate the defeat of the Castilians in the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. This Gothic structure is not only a symbol of Portuguese national independence, but also an important cultural heritage site of the country's history. King João I promised to build the monastery after the battle and was buried there, along with Prince Henriques, adding to Batalha Monastery's exceptional status and significance. However, what people find most intriguing is its imperfect chapel. Some believe that the project failed due to design flaws, while others think it was halted because funding and resources were redirected to build Mosteiro dos Jeronimos in Lisbon. The true story behind the imperfect chapel is still ongoing.
