Introduction

The Sintra Palace was built during the reign of John I and was completed during the reign of Manuel I. It underwent multiple renovations between the 14th and 18th centuries, blending Gothic, Moorish, and Portuguese styles. Prior to the establishment of the Portuguese Republic, the Sintra Palace was used as a summer retreat for the royal family. The grandest room, known as the "Swan Room," is adorned with luxurious furnishings and features 27 swans depicted in different poses on the ceiling. Other notable rooms include the "Mermaid Room" decorated with floral tiles, the "Chinese Room" containing a collection of ivory figurines, and the "Coat of Arms Room" embellished with murals and noble crests.
