Palácio da Bolsa, A Palace of Artistic and Historical Splendor

Rua Ferreira Borges, 4050-253 Porto

Introduction

The Porto Commercial Association hired a master in 1842 to build a stock exchange market. This new neoclassical building is located in the center of the old town and looks like a palace, attracting many European investors. The interior decoration is very exquisite, blending early styles from several countries, with the Arab hall and the favored British architecture style being the most prominent. The glass roof of the Patio das Nacoes is a example of iron architecture, and the entire building is also Porto's VIP conference center, welcoming many national leaders and important figures, and regularly hosting large-scale events such as concerts. Worth mentioning is that the Porto Stock Exchange Palace is also one of the founders of the European Historic Conference Center Association, which advocates using all historic buildings in Europe to transform them into modern conference centers in order to better protect and inherit historical culture.
