Introduction
Valdštejnský Palace is a Baroque palace located in the Lesser Town of Prague, which currently serves as the seat of the Senate of the Czech Republic. The palace was built between 1623-1630 by Duke Albrecht von Wallenstein of Mecklenburg. He was the commander of the imperial army of the Holy Roman Empire, but was assassinated by Emperor Ferdinand II in 1634. His widow sold the palace to her nephew, and it remained in the hands of the Wallenstein family until after the end of World War II, when it was converted for government use. Today, the Senate of the Czech Republic is located in the main building, while the Equestrian School serves as a branch of the National Gallery in Prague.
