Introduction
Křižovnické náměstí, also known as Crusader Square, is located in the Old Town of Prague, on the right bank of the Vltava River, near the famous Charles Bridge and the Royal Road. In the medieval period, it was Křižovnický Island, which has now been replaced by buildings. The main buildings around the square include the Old Town Bridge Tower (Staroměstská mostecká věž) and the Gothic and Renaissance monument to Charles IV, created by Dresden sculptor Ernst Hähnel to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Charles University.
