Introduction

The Vltava River is the longest river in the Czech Republic, originating in the Bohemian Forest and flowing through South Bohemia, Central Bohemia, and the capital city of Prague. This beautiful river divides Prague into two halves, and is crossed by 18 ancient and modern bridges that unite the city. Tourists can enjoy the scenery by taking a boat ride along the river. There are many places to rent boats around the river and camping areas, but tourists should be aware of the fast water currents after summer rains and take safety precautions. The famous Czech national composer Smetana's symphonic poem cycle "My Country" features the second movement "The Moldau", which was composed to depict the beauty of this picturesque river.
