Introduction

The Music Box Museum in Utrecht has significant historical value. The museum has a collection of music boxes from all around the world, as well as the most complex automatic playing machine. The museum was originally an ancient church called Buurkerk, located across the river from the Dom Tower. Buurkerk was the earliest parish church in Utrecht. The choir area of the church was once a place of isolation for 30-year-old nun Berteken, who wanted to avoid the evil world outside. At that time, this area was older and shorter than the central hall of the church, so the church hierarchy planned to rebuild it. However, they kept delaying until Sister Berteken died at the age of 87, and the renovation didn't begin until 1586.
