Introduction
Walking along both sides of the riverbank, you will see "houseboats" moored on the water, floating gently with the ripples. These houseboats are stationary boats where people live, each with their own door number. The houses are fully equipped with various amenities such as running water, electric lights, telephone, internet, television, mailbox, and flushing toilets. The narrow boats are divided into 3-4 rooms, with exquisite decorations and elegant furnishings that are irresistible. Some houseboats even have a small platform at the back, like a little garden filled with potted plants and flowers, leisure tables and chairs, full of life. During sunny days, residents lie on the platform to sunbathe and enjoy their leisure time. In the Netherlands, living in a houseboat has become a trend. Amsterdam has 2,000 houseboats, many of which are over 100 years old. The oldest houseboat can be traced back to 1840 when it was a water tank boat used to transport clean drinking water (Prince Canal/Amstelveld). Many artists and musicians live in houseboats, where the natural environment and inspiration are unforgettable. Tourists can visit these houseboats to learn about the history of Dutch houseboats and learn more through videos or slideshows, turning these small houseboats into a museum.
