Introduction

The Sameba Church is the second largest church in Georgia, second only to the Sameba Church in the capital city of Tbilisi. It is said that Saint Nino chose to build Georgia's first church here, and this was once the burial place of the robe of Jesus. In the first century AD, a Georgian Jew named Elias returned to this place with the robe of Jesus. After his sister came into contact with the holy relic, she died in a situation full of divine feelings, holding tightly onto the robe before her death. Therefore, the robe and her were buried here together. Later, a cedar tree grew on her grave, and seven pillars made from this tree supported the church. During the construction process, the seventh pillar suddenly floated in the air, and it did not fall until Saint Nino prayed for a night. It is rumored that the liquid flowing from the "sacred seventh pillar" can heal others. In addition, some members of the Georgian royal family, including the last king, are also buried in the church.
