Introduction
Metekhi Church is located on the opposite bank of the old town. It was first built in the 5th century and has retained its ancient style after several reconstructions. Its name "Metekhi" derives from the meaning around the palace. In the 19th century, this church was once used as a prison, and the famous writer Gorky was also imprisoned here. Next to it is a statue of the father of Georgia, which looks even more majestic from the other side of the river. Address Metekhis aghmarti, Tbilisi
